Our Story

Our History

Opening in 1935, our founders were dedicated to building a not-for-profit financial cooperative to meet the savings and borrowing needs of the residents of Fort Monmouth. Over the years, we’ve grown from a one-company credit union to serving the Monmouth and Ocean County communities. First Atlantic is headquartered in Eatontown, New Jersey.

What is a Credit Union?

We're a financial institution that performs the functions of a bank. As an account holder, you have access to all of our banking services in our branches, online, by phone, and with our mobile app.

The Credit Union Difference

As a not-for-profit financial institution owned by our account holders (known as members), our profits cycle back to our members rather than stockholders. In return, our members receive the benefits of lower fees, higher returns on deposits, accessible credit at competitive rates, and investment back into our local communities.

While both credit unions and banks offer digital banking, have financial experts, and are federally insured up to $250,000, there are key differences.

Membership Eligibility

Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Monmouth or Ocean County, NJ. An immediate family member of an existing member can also join.
